About Me

Joshua was a 2021 University of the Pacific Concerto Competition Winner
Joshua Porter’s rich baritone singing could be described as “Powerful,” “Expressive,” and “Talented.” Joshua has performed all over the world, including Carnegie Hall, New York; Santa Clara Opera House, Cuba; and Cape Town, South Africa. He’s performed a wide range of styles, and his proudest achievements are his solo work for the Cabrillo Symphonic Chorus, including the Verdi Requiem, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle, and Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore. Joshua also soloed in the world premier of Ēriks Ešenvalds’ new work, “Sunset in my Hand” at Carnegie Hall.
In 2022 Joshua performed the role of Peachum in the University of the Pacific Opera Theater’s production of The Threepenny Opera. He also portrayed the Judge in Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Trial by Jury” in 2018 at Cabrillo College, and learned the role of Poobah from The Mikado the next year at the University of the Pacific; unfortunately this performance was canceled due to the onset of COVID-19.
Joshua first began singing classically while attending Cabrillo Community College in Aptos, CA, where he studied with the illustrious Cheryl Anderson and famed conductor Michel Singher. Joshua transferred to the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music in 2019 where he studied vocal performance and opera under the tutelage of professors Daniel Ebbers and James Haffner. Joshua graduated with a BM in Music Performance in 2022.
Joshua has performed with many different orchestras, including the Monterey Symphony, Ensemble Monterey, the Santa Cruz Symphony, and the South Valley Symphony.
While at Cabrillo, Joshua worked as a teaching assistant for the choral program, conducting both the college chorus and the Cabrillo Youth Chorus, and starting in 2018, working as the musical director for an after-school music program in Santa Cruz. He was also the president and primary conductor of Il Dolce Suono, the student-run vocal ensemble at Cabrillo.
Joshua has a passion for exciting and dramatic music, and is currently pursuing a career in opera, and is also developing a virtual voice studio. In his spare time Joshua enjoys reading, hiking, and playing with his kitties.
